Why/when should I see a Naturopathic Doctor?

Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) provide treatment for any number of conditions (see below for more information).  However, what we truly excel at is preventative wellness.  So there’s no need to wait for an illness or condition to arise prior to seeking care.  In fact, it would be ideal to start seeing an ND when you are healthy, so that we might look at your  diet, lifestyle and family history to determine the best prevention and health promotion program for you.

ND’s are trained as primary care givers, provide thorough assessment and diagnosis, and work to strengthen the body’s organ systems to optimize wellness and the body’s ability to heal and self-regulate.  If you are currently suffering from a medical condition we can offer alternative or supportive therapies as options.

While there are limitations to our practice (we do not perform surgeries or treat with pharmaceutical drugs, for example), we are always able to provide either primary or supportive care to our patients, and work in cooperation with conventional medical doctors or other allied health care professionals.  We are trained in pharmacology and have expertise in drug interactions with nutrients, herbs and other natural health products.  Therefore, NDs are able to safely provide care to those on existing prescription medications.

One of the most frequently asked questions we get is:  What conditions do you treat?

Naturopathy treats the whole person and the underlying cause – not just the disease symptoms, so really the conditions treated are limitless.

That said, conditions commonly seen and treated by NDs include (but are not limited to):

» Skin disorders: eczema, acne, psoriasis

» Mental health issues: anxiety, depression, insomnia, ADHD, exhaustion, excessive stress

» Digestive disorders: IBS, Colitis, Crohn’s, acid reflux (GERD), heartburn, ulcers, indigestion, constipation

» Metabolic disorders: obesity, weight gain or loss, diabetes, osteoporosis, metabolic syndrome

» Reproductive & Endocrine Health: fertility issues & PCOS, BPH, erectile dysfunction, PMS, menstrual irregularities, symptoms of menopause, fibroids, endometriosis

» Pregnancy: pre-conception counseling, prenatal & postnatal care

» General Health & Immunity: headaches, asthma colds and flu, allergies, chronic infections, autoimmune conditions

» Cardiovascular Disease: elevated blood pressure, poor cholesterol profile, atherosclerosis, varicosities or hemorrhoids, heart disease, stroke

» Cancer

» Auto Immune Disease
