All ND’s in Ontario are trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) & acupuncture.  A TCM diagnosis and acupuncture protocol may be included as a part of your comprehensive individualized Naturopathic treatment plan. In addition, we also offer acupuncture as a stand-alone treatment.

traditional chinese medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture are among the oldest healing practices in the world.  It is based on the concept that health concerns are caused by an imbalance of yin and yang, leading to a blockage of the body’s flow of Qi (energy)

Traditional Chinese Medicine utilizes non invasive diagnostic methods to get to the root cause and understand the interrelationships of an individual’s health concerns. Diagnosis is based on many factors including: health history, family history, examination of the tongue and pulses, and more.

Treatments include the use of acupuncture, herbal medicine, and diet & lifestyle modifications to promote the proper flow of qi and restore the yin-yang balance in the body.

Acupuncture is the insertion of extremely fine needles into specific points which lay upon a series of connected pathways or “meridians” throughout the body, where the energy, or “Qi”, flows. Stimulation of specific acupuncture points can affect the flow of qi in the meridians, thereby re-balancing the yin and yang in the body.

Acupuncture needles are metallic, solid, and hair-thin. People experience acupuncture differently, but most feel no or minimal pain as the needles are inserted. Some will feel energized, while others may feel relaxed. Only sterile, single-use needles are used.

The report from a Consensus Development Conference on Acupuncture held at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 1997 stated that acupuncture is being “widely” practiced—by thousands of physicians, dentists, acupuncturists, and other practitioners—for relief or prevention of pain and for various other health conditions.  Acupuncture can be used to treat a variety of health conditions which include, but are not limited to:

  • Chronic pain (including muscular pain, chronic back pain, frozen shoulder)
  • Headaches, migraines
  • Arhtritis
  • Digestive complaints
  • Menstrual complaints (cramps, pain, heavy flow, irregular periods)
  • Menopause
  • Infertility, erectile dysfunction
  • Insomnia
  • Mental conditions (anxiety, stress, depression)
  • Respiratory disorders (asthma, lung infections)
  • Allergies, sinusitis
