traditional chinese medicine (tcm) & acupuncture

Respect yourself and others will respect you. – Confucius
All ND’s are trained in TCM & acupuncture. Additionally, we have an acupuncturist on staff who performs other therapies including cupping and tuina massage.
tcm diagnosis
The human body is seen as a reflection of nature and as a holistic entity. A slight imbalance in the body’s flow of Qi (energy) can cause a variety of health concerns. Traditional Chinese Medicine utilizes non invasive diagnostic methods to get to the root cause and understand the interrelationships of an individual’s health concerns. Diagnosis is based on many factors including: health history, family history, examination of the tongue and pulses, and more.
acupuncture
Acupuncture is the insertion of extremely fine needles into specific points which lay upon a series of connected pathways or “meridians” throughout the body, where the energy, or “Qi” flows. Acupuncture is a regulating therapy which means that it may remove energy blockages or warm and cool the body. Whatever the disharmony, acupuncture can work to rebalance the body. Only sterile, single-use needles are used.
cupping
Cupping is another type of therapy used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. A vacuum is created over the skin with glass cups, creating a feeling similar to deep tissue massage, with tissues as deep as four inches affected. Cupping stimulates the release of toxins, activates the lymphatic system, removes blockages in the body that may be the cause of illness or pain, and stimulates organ function to activate the body’s own healing abilities.
tuina
Tuina is Chinese for “pushing and grasping”, and can be described as therapeutic massage or acupressure. The theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine is used, just as in acupuncture. Tuina can be used alone, but the best results are seen with a combination of acupuncture and tuina.
